I have two desires every morning that are in a huge conflict with each other. My first desire is to wake up without an alarm clock. I hate any sort of beeping, chirping or buzzing of an electronic device telling me it's time to get up. When I was in college, waking up on my own meant I was getting up just in time for lunch. But as I have gotten older, I usually wake up on my own by 7 or 7:30. My second desire is to already be up and starting my day when the sun rises. I love watching the sky brighten. When I walked out this morning, the sun was just starting to turn the sky pink and it was a beautiful drive in. But those first few minutes of getting up are a bitch. Is it possible to wake up on my own before the sun does? I think I would have to go to bed at like 6 PM.
The photo shoot is done. It is supposed to be for the home page and also for the blast email that goes out. I may or may not post the link when it goes live. If you know where I work, then you can find it on your own in about two weeks.

Big Thoughts
I have a couple of rather large thoughts floating around in my head so bear with me.
I was having a conversation with a coworker this morning about the local city market. This is one of my favorite things about living in C'ville and it is about to start up again. It runs from April thru October every Saturday morning from 7-12. I love to go there and smell the fresh produce, flowers, homemade soaps and organic coffee. I was mentioning it to him because we were discussing the pros and cons of buying organic and I said I was happy that the market would be starting up again so that I could buy some stuff there. He then made a comment that struck me as very racist but it wasn't along the black/white lines. He said something like "yeah I like that place but I think that the mexicans are just buying stuff from other places and then selling it there like they grew them." Now, here's the thing. I have never seen a "mexican" there selling something. And then the other big question, how does he know that they are "mexicans"? For some reason, that word affects just like if someone said the n-word. I'm not quite sure why. There is no reason for it to offend me other than the fact that I am a human in this world. But that racial slur just really cuts through me. The other thing that bothered me about that situation is that I was unable to summon the courage to say "Hey shithead, let's try to keep the racial slurs to a minimum."
I was reading Mandy's blog today and she had a link to someone else's blog that was talking about his life and his relationship with his wife. He was pretty longwinded so I had started to skim when I noticed his revelation that it has been over six weeks since he and his wife were sexually intimate. That just blows my mind. What's the point if it has gotten this far? Why would either of them desire to stay in a relationship with the other person if that part is missing? I know that the physical side is not everything to a relationship but geez. He also talks about her refusal to move from where they currently live because her support network is there. I can't ever imagine being so attached to people other than my husband/life partner/children that I would be willing to say to them "Listen, I know that moving would make our lives better but I can't be away from these people. So we have to stay here."
We are trying to make a decision about moving. Not to a different town but to a different house. There are a lot of factors and it is making the decision difficult. We had gotten to the point where we had decided that we are moving and so we had gotten pretty far down the path of looking for a new place. But yesterday evening, as we were driving to yet another house to look at, we suddenly started discussing the cons of moving. And they are quite large. In fact there are two glaring ones. Money and stability. On the money side, we would be spending about $500 more per month. On the stability side, it's not so much about the grownups' level of stability but the 12 and under crowd. Only one has expressed the desire to move to a different location and the other three have expressed the desire to NOT move. So then I started to think about why I have a such a strong desire to be in a different house. And it comes down to the fact that I am not happy with the condition of our current house and that is all stuff that I can change. So I think that we have made the decision to stay put and make some changes in the house. Some major spring cleaning needs to happen, especially on the toy side. So since the crew is not going to be home for two weeks because of spring break, I am going to take this time to really work on things. I may even borrow the carpet cleaner from my mom and clean the carpets! Party time!
I am in a photo shoot this afternoon for my company that involves hawaiian shirts, a conga line and a rather large sombrero. It should be a good time.

Now that makes sense
I have never understood the whole bluetooth thing for phones. I get the bluetooth application for microphones for camcorders, wirelessly connecting your iPod to your home stereo, even your cell phone connecting to the head unit in your vehicle so that you can take and make calls in the car. But the headset constantly being in your ear, nope don't understand that.
I finally saw one being put to good use today. I was in line at Target paying for my stuff and I noticed that there was a lady in line behind me that had a toddler that was just learning how to walk. She had been unloading stuff and then I heard her talking to someone. I turned around and saw her crouched down next to her buggy getting a baby wipe out of her purse to wipe the toddler's hands off and she was talking to someone but she wasn't doing the head crick thing like she was holding the phone with her shoulder since her hands were occupied. And then I noticed the ear piece. And it finally makes sense. I have never been able to think of something that I would be doing that I would not look completely ridculous with that thing in my ear. Trying to keep your hands on your just walking toddler and unload your buggy and connect up with someone all at the same time definately calls for the bluetooth.
I understand now.

When good names go bad
Check out the kid's name in this news story. Not only is his first and last name basically the same, but every one of his names has a letter that doesn't exist in alphabets outside of Norway. His name will be incomplete if he ever trys to live anywhere else.
Spring busts out all over
Much of Norway has been basking in unusually warm and sunny weather since late last week, and forecasters say more spring weather is expected over the next week. It was enough to tempt at least one Norwegian into the season's first swim.
There's one in every crowd, goes the old saying. Someone is bound to test the limits of common sense and seek a bit of excitement.
Young Jørgen Rønning Jørgensen saw his chance on Sunday, when he ventured down to the popular beach on the Oslo Fjord called Ingierstrand. The sun, the sea and the highest temperature so far this year were simply too tempting.
Jørgensen stripped to swimshorts and ran into the water. He quickly ran out again, but at least he could brag to anyone willing to listen that "Jeg har badet!" ("I've had a swim!")
A few sailboats could also be spotted on the fjord and Norwegians flocked outdoors all over the country to soak up some rays after months of the dreariest winter in recent memory, with little snow for skiing. Temperatures "soared" to around 14C (57F), breezes were light and there's hardly been a cloud in the sky since the middle of last week.
State meteorologists also have mostly good news as Norwegians settle down for next week's traditional Easter holidays. Some clouds may roll in on Thursday of this week, but the long-term outlook through next week called for more mild temperatures and little if any precipitation.
It's still cold at night, though, with temperatures dipping below zero in the Oslo area. There's still snow in the mountains as well, so skiers can get in a few more runs before the season ends.

Australians find 'monster' cane toad
Times Online
Australian environmentalists trying to slow the inexorable spread of the toxic cane toad have found a "monster" male during a night-time raid on a pond near Darwin.
The toad, measuring 20.5 cm (8.1in) and weighing nearly 1kg (2lb), was one of 39 picked in a "breeding frenzy" and is thought to be the largest ever found in the tropical Northern Territory.
“It’s huge, to put it mildly,” said Graeme Sawyer of the nature group Frogwatch. “The biggest toads are usually females but this one was a rampant male ... I would hate to meet his big sister.”
The first cane toads were introduced into Australia in 1935, when 102 toads were imported from Hawaii in a failed attempt to control sugar cane beetles in the plantations of the Queensland coast.
The toads breed twice a year, laying up to 36,000 eggs in a clutch, and they have spread steadily westwards across the rest of the country. Seventy years after their introduction, there are an estimated 200 million cane toads in Australia.
They have also proved fatal to Australia's delicate ecosystems, killing millions of native animals from snakes to the small crocodiles which eat them.
As part of its 'Toad Buster' project, Frogwatch conducts regular raids on local water holes, blinding the toads with bright lights then scooping them up by the dozen.
“We kill them with carbon dioxide gas, stockpile them in a big freezer and then put them through a liquid fertiliser process," Mr Sawyer said. “It turns out to be sensational fertilizer.”
If after reading this, you must see a pic of the giant toad, go to google news...I still haven't figured out how to get photos in this damn thing unless I am using picassa.

The last time I visited
The last time I went to Norway, it was May 2004. I really miss it. I need to go back soon.
The last night I was there, I went into Oslo on the train to meet up with some friends. I had been staying at Evelyn's house in Sandefjord but I had to be at the airport the next morning at about 4 AM so it made sense for me to head into Oslo the evening before. I met up with some of Evelyn's friends that I had met during my week there and they lived in Oslo while they were in college. So we went to a forspill which means "foreplay" translated literally. What it really means is a party before going out. Alcohol is extremely expensive at the bars so people usually buy stuff before and drink it at someone's house. Then when they go out, they only have one or two drinks. So we went to this party and I got very drunk. We then took a cab, I think, the details are a little fuzzy, and went to this discotecque that played 80's music. We were there until they closed at 1 AM and as we were walking back to my friend's flat, we discovered this huge flower pot. So I climbed on it.
Look how embarrassed the girls in the background look.
So it took us about an hour to walk back to my friend's flat but it was fine because the sun had already start to come up. I had just enough time to change my clothes and get my suitcase and get to the bus stop so I could get on the 2:30 AM bus going to the airport. I was still drunk when I got to the airport. I'm pretty sure I was still drunk when I got on the plane. But I slept and slept and slept. That was a short trip home!
Possibly
I started feeling not good yesterday evening. My throat is scratchy and my ears and eyes itch. When I woke up this morning, it was even worse. It may be allergies or a cold. But whatever it is, it's not really responding to medicine. So I have suffered through work today.
We are house hunting. For a rental, not a purchase. We looked at a house yesterday evening that was interesting mostly because every room was painted a different color. I was a little dizzy when we walked out. The fact that it was on the top of a mountain didn't help either. The driveway was literally almost straight up. Which means there wasn't much of a yard. So there were a lot of big minuses to that house. We are looking at another one tomorrow that seems to be more in line with our needs. It's fun to look at all these houses but at the same time, I am dreading having to do the moving thing in a few months. We have been stationary for two years now and that feels really good. Although I will admit that some weeding out will not be a bad thing when we move. Some of the toys and clothes need to go.
This is a really boring post. I need to leave work now. I need to go buy a new bra but I really just want to go home and lay down.
My head feels like it weighs a gazillion pounds.

If it looks like
the animal that it once was, I can't seem to cook it or eat it. In fact it makes me quite sick. The 12 year old has been requesting salmon for quite some time. And I have gradually gotten myself accustomed to cooking meat, mainly chicken. So I thought I could handle the salmon. I wasn't quite sure how to prepare it though so I was flipping through my Rachel Ray cookbook and I found a recipe for salmon with a pineapple chutney. I go to the store to buy some salmon and immediately rule out fresh salmon because it still has the skin on it. Can't handle that so I went to the frozen section. I thought I had hit jackpot when I found some salmon fillets that didn't have skin on AND they were on sale. So I head home and go to cook this meal for the boy. I open the package and discover that I was tricked by the packaging. The frozen salmon does in fact have the silver skin as well. So I promptly left the kitchen, went and found the boy's meat-eating father and proceeded to explain to him that he must be the one to cook the salmon since it still looks like the fish and I can therefore not go near it. I was also not prepared for my house to smell like fried fish. I really was meant to be a vegetarian even though I was not meant to be an adventist.
My house smelled so bad that I had to bake double chocolate Ghirardelli muffins to remove the fish smell.
I just need to stick to boneless, skinless chicken breasts that do not resemble the animal.

Stripped of my crown
My people no longer want to be part of a voodoo monarchy. Which means that I am no longer the voodoo queen. That makes me sad.
What the heck am I talking about, you ask? Cybernations. I have a county. It is called Sugar Magnolia Land. So since it is my country, I am the ruler. And my people were content to have the national government be a monarchy. In fact they asked to be a monarchy. They also asked to have their national religion be voodoo. So I agreed. This weekend however, they changed their minds. They decided that they wanted to be a democracy. How boring. On the flip side, they wanted to change their religion to Islam. So I'm good with that. When they are happy, they make more money. Which means I can collect more taxes. And buy more technology. So I am ready for a war.
Yes, I am officially a geek.

What a strange story
14.03.2007
Three passengers gradually came forward to report serious burn wounds on the buttocks after riding a number 31 bus in Oslo on Tuesday, March 6. On Thursday Aftenposten.no got another call about the incident that has baffled doctors and transport officials.
A 32-year-old woman called Aftenposten.no and said that she too had suffered burn wounds after riding the 31 bus, but that her trip had occurred exactly a week earlier, on the morning of Feb. 27th.
The woman said that she felt a pain in her rump while sitting on the bus, and it was sharp enough to force her to only sit on the right side of her bottom. When she returned home she discovered a wound.
"It was a black lump the size of a cherry. At first I thought I had gotten the world's biggest pimple," she said. Like the other victims, the woman's clothes were undamaged.
She understood the connection after reading the articles on the steadily growing mystery at Aftenposten.no.
"My injury was exactly the same place as the others, and it was very painful," the woman said. She was 95 percent certain she was riding a 31 bus, but her trip is also trafficked by the number 30, so there is an element of doubt.
Police inspector Bjørnar Gilberg at Grønland police station in downtown Oslo said the case was a tough one to investigate.
"We have no clues to follow," Gilberg told Aftenposten.no, and said that the police were now assessing what kind of resources they could devote to an investigation.
"We take this matter seriously but we have many other cases that are even more serious, for example serious assault cases, that we have to prioritize," Gilberg said.
The Oslo Transport bus companies have not been able to explain the injuries and say they need expert assistance.

Sizzle Sizzle
I bought a curling iron the other day at Target. I haven't purchased a curling iron in at least 10 years. At least I hope it has been that long. Anyways, as I was taking stuff out of my buggy to put on the belt to be rung up, I felt this overwhelming need to explain to the person scanning my stuff why I was buying a curling iron. I didn't do it of course because who wants to hear it? Does she care that I am buying a curling iron because the 7 and 9 year olds at my house have decided that this weekend we are having a "Pretty Girl Beauty Pageant" and therefore MUST have a curling iron so that we can curl our hair? Or more specifically so that the 9 year old and I can curl our hair because the 7 year old has been blessed with naturally curly hair? Oh yes, I will be in it too. The better question is did she even notice that she was scanning a curling iron? I am always a little paranoid that the person scanning my items is silently judging me based on the things that I am buying. For instance, are they thinking that I don't really need a bag of the Cadbury Mini Eggs although they only come out once a year and are heaven wrapped in little candy shells? Would they have been more understanding of my curling iron purchase if they had the beauty pageant info? I kept my mouth shut though because I didn't want to be the crazy lady that talks to the cashier and it becomes painfully obvious that she doesn't get any other meaningful connection in her life and must therefore converse with anyone that stands still long enough for her to catch. As I was walking out of Target, a memory flashed in my head of me at the age of perhaps 12. I would take the curling iron to my bangs, yes bangs, and before I rolled my hair around the barrel of the curling iron, I would spray it profusely with hairspray so that as it hit the curling iron, it would sizzle. It is amazing I still have hair.

Remind me again why...
In an effort to have a gazillion posts today, here is a photo of me wearing the bridesmaid dress but they didn't have my size in the color that Shelley wants so I am holding the dress in the color that she likes. I think the orangish-red-pink color is pretty hot but it's not my wedding. Oh well. I can wear this dress again, right?
Hamster Luv
This is what Bomber does when she is ready to get out of her cage for the evening and go exploring. She knaws and knaws at her cage. Notice how much white paint has already been chipped away. She will probably make it through the metal bars one day.
They love each other dearly but alas they will never be together.
I know that hamster babies are cute but only after a week or so. And the potential trauma of having Bomber eat the babies, which sometimes happens in hamster land, means that S'Mores and Bomber will never be "together".

This is S'Mores checking his cage from the outside. Perhaps he is trying to see it from a different view so he can plan a better escape route.
In other not hamster news, I went to the gym this evening after spending a somewhat depressing day at David's Bridal. Shelley was trying on wedding dresses which actually means that she had already picked out the one that she wanted and she just wanted us to see it on her. Our actual input was not needed or desired. Well, my mom was able to talk her into a different veil. I tried on different bridesmaid dresses and endured yet another sales lady trying to convince me that my boobs are not as big as they are. Listen, I've lived with them long enough to know that just not wearing one, as this crazy lady suggested, and hoping that the fit of the dress will keep them in place isn't going to work. We finally found a dress that will work with my bra and actually kind of works with Shelley's wedding dress. So it ended well. But I hope to not have to return there for a very long time.
Blast from the past...
Whoa, what a group! I asked Shelley to bring home one of her old photo albums when she came down for the week because it has some pics of Victoria when she was a baby and I wanted to get them copied. And look at the gem I found! Left to right: Andy, Karl, Bart, Michelle, Me, Lindsey, Jeremy, Elia and Shelley. Oh and can't leave out the best Lab in the world, besides Bubba Booie, Max. Hmm, I wonder what would happen if all those same people ended up back in a room. Oh and if you are confused by the date on the pic, it's because the scanner is not working so I took a picture of a picture.

Candy Mountain
O.K. so I haven't figured out this blogging thing completely. I wanted to post a video here that I found on YouTube yesterday but that really didn't work out.
